water saving education to students
You can be a water saver in our school by:
- Not leaving the tap running for a long time while you are washing your hands.
- Turning off taps if you do not need to use them.
- Reporting leaking taps and toilets to school staffs quickly. One drop per second equals 7,000 litres of water wasted per year.
- Washing paint brushes or tools in a bucket or ice cream container
- Monitoring water by reading the water flow meter on the beginning and ending of every week to discover any hidden leaking pipes or taps.
- Nominating water monitors to check for leaks and running taps.
- Designing signs near taps and toilets to tell everyone at school how they can save water.
- Telling your friends how to save water too.

Water strategies
(Primary students)
Calculating the school`s water efficiency, finding out how we could improve this, by using a water efficiency flow chart (chart 1).
Making a roster of water monitors to read the flow meter in the morning (before water use) and in the afternoon (after water use) to check if there is any water leaking area (chart 1).
Conducting a water audit (chart 2) to figure out how much water our school uses, where it is used and whether our toilets, taps and bubblers are water efficient.
Once have worked out our school`s water efficiency:
Creating a water efficiency monitoring team to regular check for leaking and running taps, bubblers and toilets, record them (chart 3).
Creating a plan (click to see plan) which can be linked to our school`s environmental management plan.
Investigating measurements to improve water efficiency in our school`s gardens and playgrounds.
